Psi Another Day by D. R. Rosensteel Review

Rinnie is not your average teenager. Sure, she gets bullied and hates school, but normal teenagers aren’t part of a secret society known as the Psi Fighters. Rinnie has been training for years in the use of Mental Arts, and now she will put that training to the test. Someone is kidnapping little girls in their quiet town and Rinnie will put a stop to it to keep her little sister and other little girls safe. However, she soon finds out that it is not just a kidnapper they have to worry about, the Psi Fighters enemy, the Walpurgis Knights, have come back to claim what they once lost. Now Rinnie is more determined than ever to find out how to stop the Knights and the kidnapper because the Knights are the reason her parents are dead. Rinnie cannot trust anyone except her best friend, not even the hot new guy, and especially not Mason, the school bully. She is about to enter a dangerous game of cat and mouse, and even with her psychic powers, Rinnie might not see who is really behind it all until it is too late.

I was blown away by how much I liked this book. The synopsis grabbed my attention, but as soon as I started reading, I knew I would love this book. I would say this book is like the teen version of the television shows Arrow and The Mentalist. Who would not love to read a book like that? The plot is so fascinating that you cannot help but be pulled into the story. The creativeness of the author astounds me because who would have thought that they could make psychic weapons. Psychic weapons like, Mental Blast, Memory Lash, Thought Saber, Heart Piercing Dagger, and so much more. The creativity of his writing absolutely captivated me. I also loved the humor in this book. It is difficult to make to laugh when reading a book, but Psi Another Day had me rolling. The witty banter and the snappy comebacks had my laughing until I cried. The characters just made me wish I was part of their world and a good book always makes you want to live the adventure alongside its characters. This book really has it all, engaging characters, humor, a ton of action, mystery, and even a little romance that give us hope for more in the next book! I cannot wait to continue the series, especially after that ending. I highly recommend this book to anyone look for an action packed book with a ton of humor, adventure, and mystery. You will not regret reading it, I assure you. I give it five out of five stars.

Forbidden: Discover the Legend (Wolf Sirens, #1) by Tina Smith Review

Lila Crain’s parents are getting divorced and to make matters worse, her mother is making her move to her old town called Shade. Lila is forced to go to Shade High where any outsider is practically shunned, but after a few days, the most popular group in the school approaches her, wanting to be friends. Suspicious at their sudden change of heart, Lila is reluctant to join their group and even more so when Cresida, once the leader of said group, tells her to stay away from them. Lila cannot help but be drawn to the group of girls and boy who seem so off limits, especially, Sky who also happens to be Sam, the ringleaders, boyfriend. Lila starts to piece together the mystery of this group and what she will find will be nothing like she expected. The wolves are out in the town of Shade and Lila might just be the reason why.

This plot had a lot of potential. However, the writing was too bland for a story like this. A paranormal fiction book demands action and this book severely lacked in that area. When I began the story, I could tell that the author liked to describe everything even the tiniest little event or detail, and that is okay, to a point. However, this book had too many descriptive passages and not enough action and dialogue. The book seemed to flat line in the area of action, and adventure. I would describe this book as monotone in the way that there was never a rise and fall in the book. There was never really a climactic event, as all books should have. Even though I kept reading, I felt so bored that I had to skip paragraphs of description and fluff, just to get to the dialogue and action. Now, the book did pick up in pace and action in the end, but it was a little too late for that. Since the book picked up in the end, I tried reading the second book in the series and I could not even get past the very beginning. I had a lot of hope for this book, but it did not even come close to my expectations. Unfortunately, I would have to give this book one out of five stars.

The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter Review

Kate’s mom is dying and her last wish is to move back to her childhood home. Now, Kate is having to go to a new school with no friends, and to add to the stress, Kate is not sure her mom will survive much longer. As Kate arrives in Eden, Michigan, she begins to realize that this town is not normal. To further prove her point that Eden is not a normal town, she meets Henry who claims that he is Hades, god of the Underworld. He then gives her a chance to bargain with him, if she accepts the bargain then he will keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests. Kate is sure that he is insane, but when he brings a girl back from the dead, Kate knows that he is telling the truth. Now, Katie must pass these tests to save her mother, and then she will become Henry’s bride and a goddess. However, if she fails she will lose everything.
I absolutely loved this book. I was craving an amazing mythology based book and I got what I wanted and more! The beginning of the book was a little slow for me, however when I got to the second chapter, I was hooked. I absolutely love how Amee made Henry aka Hades appear to be a young adult, but he had the attitude and the mindset of a god. Some mythology based books make the gods seem either too childish or too full of themselves, but Amee captured the essence of the gods perfectly. Kate is am amazingly written character. She is strong willed and willing to do anything to help someone in need, even if they have wronged her somehow. As you will be able to tell throughout the book, Kate is very loyal to those she loves, but she is also fair when it comes to justice, which she has to be if she is to be a goddess. That is one thing I love about her character. The plot of this book is what I love the most. Kate is supposed to be going through these tests, but she has no idea what they are. As you read the mystery of what the tests are, how they will be delivered, and if she passed them keeps you wanting to turn the page. There is no lack of action in this book, I assure you. The mythology is still front and center. You do not forget that you are reading a book about mythology that is for sure. This book is now one of my favorites, and I cannot wait to continue the series. I highly recommend it. I gave it five out of five stars.

Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick Review

Eighteen-year-old Becky Randle is an ordinary girl who receives an impossible offer. She meets Tom Kelly, the world's top designer, and he promises to create three dresses to transform her from a nothing-special girl into the Most Beautiful Woman Who Ever Lived.  Becky thinks Tom is a lunatic, or that he's producing a hidden camera show called World's Most Gullible Poor People. But she accepts, and she's remade as Rebecca. When Becky looks in the mirror, she sees herself -- an awkward mess of split ends and cankles. But when anyone else looks at Becky, they see pure five-alarm hotness. Soon Rebecca is on the cover of Vogue and the new Hollywood darling. Then she meets Prince Gregory, heir to the British throne, and everything starts to crumble. Because Rebecca aside, Becky loves him. But to love her back, Gregory would have to look past the blinding Rebecca to see the real girl inside. And for that, there's not enough magic in the world.(From Goodreads)
I was really excited to read this book at first because it sounded like a good contemporary read, but as I began to read it, I just couldn’t get into it. I hate to say it, but I could not even get halfway through because this book was just really strange. I cannot explain it but the atmosphere of the book was just off. I tried to read the whole book, but I cannot force myself to read something I do not like. I was just so confused as to what was happening that it was hard to concentrate on the progression of the story. At first, I thought this book was just a normal contemporary book, but as the story continues, it seems like there is a supernatural element to it. Maybe it is because I was in a reading slump or what not, but I just could not finish this book. I have to give it one out of five stars.
