Defy by Sara B. Larson Review

When a book fills you with emotions, you know it is good. A book can have the best plot in the world, but without a stirring of emotions, the book will fail to engage the reader further. Defy by Sara Larson is a book that has a gripping plot, and it fills you with emotions. You could lose yourself in this book.
Defy is about a girl named Alexa whose parents were murdered by a sorcerer. She is forced to act as a boy so that she can join the king’s army along with her twin brother, and avoid the horrors that their new king inflicts upon women. As personal guard to Prince Damien, Alexa is in charge of his safety, which is threatened when a sorcerer attacks them. This kicks off the journey of a lifetime for Alexa that brings to light what she has been kept in the dark about for so long.
I cannot tell you how much I love this book, the kickass heroine fights better than the boys, but still has a hidden soft side. The characters in this story are so complex that I could never guess what they would do. Usually I can guess how a book will end, but I was kept guessing until the last page. That is what I love about a book; a mysterious plot that slowly reveals itself.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a brand new fantasy world, with a strong heroine, a love triangle, and an ending that will have you impatiently waiting for the next book. Also, if you loved Graceling or Fire by Kristin Cashore, A Girl of Thorn and Fire by Rae Carson, or Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge then this book is one you will love. Five out of five stars!
